Peer Education Network (PEN)

The Peer Education Network (PEN) at the University of Utah is a collaborative approach to student success. PEN is a partnership that brings together leaders of tutoring and academic support programs from across campus to establish a shared, evidence-based framework for how peer education is delivered, assessed, and expanded.

Peer Education Network Four Agreements:

  • Participate in the PEN collaborative network to strengthen our offerings to students
  • Follow shared best practices & basic operational guidelines, peer-learning focused training, data collection & reporting, and standardized scheduling 
  • Utilize Peer Institute training for tutors 
  • Collect and share usage & impact data 

Peer Education Network Best Practices:

  • Sound selection & hiring practices: content-knowledgeable tutors ready to take on the responsibility of tutoring
  • Planned training program for tutors
  • Data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Regular tutor evaluations by a knowledgeable, experienced evaluator
